We are excited to announce that we have not one, but two new members of the LibreTexts team joining us this month. First up is our new Director of Curriculum Innovation and Development, Justin Shorb. Justin was previously a member of the LibreTexts team and is responsible for co-organizing the very first LibreFest workshops. He is passionate about curriculum and OER, and is excited to bring his expertise back to the LibreVerse. In his own words:

“This is a great opportunity for me to pursue my passion of making curriculum materials accessible to students of all abilities and financial means – and it expands my prior focus of chemistry into essentially all disciplines! This continues my ongoing professional work with Open Educational Resources (OER, from my time at Catalyst/Labflow and at Chemical Education Digital Library), curation of OER Libraries, curriculum reform, and assessment! I am excited to work with faculty across disciplines to develop free textbook solutions and extremely low-cost assessment tools for their classrooms!”

Next up, you will be seeing a lot of this team member across the greater LibreVerse in the coming weeks. We are talking, of course, about our new official LibreTexts mascot, Benny! Benny, short for Bennett, has joined the team to share his passion of showing current and prospective open education advocates all of the benefits inherent with using OER, as well as how easy it can be to take your open education efforts to the next level with LibreTexts.

Welcome to the team, Justin and Benny!

ADAPT, the open homework system within LibreTexts, allows users to build formative and summative assessments using WebWork, H5P, or Native QTI. It is also possible to create accessible alternatives to questions and assessments. Faculty are continually developing and sharing new questions and activity types, so the way in which you can assess your students’ learning is endless.

In addition to providing a place to access and create assessments, ADAPT is also a tool for connecting open homework systems to the Canvas gradebook. This series of webinars is intended to introduce users to ADAPT. Each hands-on one-hour webinar is followed by 30 minutes for questions and answers.

All attendees will need to create a free ADAPT instructor account to fully participate in these webinars. You can request an account on the LibreTexts ADAPT website.
